Schroders Capital today announces it has appointed Kieran Farrelly as Head of Global Solutions for Real Estate, focused on delivering specialist investment solutions to meet the evolving and tailored needs of institutional investors in private markets.

In this newly-created role, Kieran will become part of the Solutions team reporting to Global Head of Real Estate, Sophie van Oosterom. Solutions encompasses Schroders Real Estate Capital Partners which invests in real estate strategies, managed in-house or by third party niche specialists, either on behalf of or in partnership with separate account clients. This team, led by Sarah Cockburn, will continue to focus on UK solutions.

Kieran will be expanding the international investment scope of the Solutions team, selecting the most attractive risk-adjusted real estate strategies globally. The team will be investing and managing real estate both directly as well as indirectly in partnership with selected specialist operators, structured as primary and secondary investments, operating partnerships and co-investments. Kieran will lead the development, launch and implementation of investment solutions across all real estate strategies.

Kieran joins from private assets specialist StepStone Group where he was a Partner within the real estate team. Prior to helping establish the European real estate team at Stepstone, he was a Principal at real estate consultant The Townsend Group and was previously a Director at CBRE Global Investment Partners, focused on client portfolio management, global strategy and investment activity, spanning primaries and secondaries.

Schroders Capital is heavily focused on strengthening its in-house real estate expertise to service a growing investor base looking for tailored private-market solutions. Last month, James MacNamara joined as Head of Operational Real Estate Strategies, a newly-created role to leverage the hospitality expertise of Schroders’ operating hotel team into adjacent sectors. Natalie Howard joined Schroders Capital earlier this year as Head of Real Estate Debt where she has built a pan-European team offering debt solutions spanning investment grade, senior and high yield strategies across the UK and Europe.

Sophie van Oosterom, Global Head of Real Estate, Schroders Capital, commented:

“Our business has significantly expanded its geographic remit and importantly strengthened its operational value-add expertise in real estate globally, to service our growing investor base looking for tailored solutions in private markets. Through multiple specialist acquisitions and focused talent recruitment, we have established important building blocks of specialist capabilities and on the ground operating expertise on top of an already strong foundation.

“With both Kieran and James joining our team this month, we are now formally launching our Global Solutions business. Leveraging the various centres of expertise across our platform, the Global Solutions team will be offering our clients a choice of bespoke, attractive risk-adjusted return strategies and best in class execution.

“Kieran has a strong track record of selecting and managing outperforming real estate strategies through direct and indirect investments that fulfil client requirements along the risk return spectrum. With his deep and extensive knowledge of real estate markets globally, we believe he will be a great addition to the team as we build trusted partnerships with our clients and exceed their tailored investment objectives in real estate.”
