Rehabilitation of the city centre

In Bracknell, Berkshire (UK), we built a new town centre together with Legal & General. We have been investing in the centre for over 15 years and the new 54,000 m² Lexicon Bracknell project opened in September 2017.

Together with the developer, we are, unusually, jointly responsible for the post-war city centre. As part of the project, new shops, leisure facilities and 1,000 residential units will be built. In addition, some of the original shops will be renovated. Local government and residents were closely involved in the development of the city centre redevelopment plan to identify the needs of the centre and the city as a whole.

This collaboration shaped the concept and facilities of the plan. These included infrastructure, access, public safety and well-being. Apprenticeships were created for the construction project and the services of employment agencies were used. Around 3,500 new jobs were created for blue-collar and white-collar workers.

The project envisages a fully redeveloped town centre, which supports its position as a retail centre in Berkshire. Further investment from the surrounding area is expected to benefit Bracknell's economic development and prosperity.
