Schroders Capital, the private markets business with $97.3 billion of assets under management, today announces the promotion of Peter Lowe to Head of UK Real Estate Investment.
With strong UK investment experience across a range of fund strategies and structures, a key focus for Peter will be optimising the UK Real Estate team’s ability to deliver outperformance for clients and capture market opportunities. Peter will retain his existing fund management responsibilities.
This follows the formation of a new leadership team within the Real Estate business, including the promotion of Nick Montgomery to Global Head of Real Estate, as Schroders Capital looks to further strengthen its real estate capabilities and client proposition. In his new role, Peter will work closely with Nick and Rebecca Gates, Head of UK Real Estate Asset Management.
Schroders Capital’s UK Real Estate team has a proven track-record, with over 50 years of experience and deep expertise spanning investment and portfolio management as well as asset operations. This is illustrated by three recent MSCI fund performance awards, including Schroder Real Estate Investment Trust winning the highest 10-year risk-adjusted total return for the UK and Continental Europe. The team’s success has led to mandate wins such as the £2 billion real estate allocation from the Wales Pension Partnership (WPP), a collaboration of the eight LGPS funds in Wales and one of eight Local Government Pension pools.
The real estate business encompasses important and differentiated strategies such as the Schroders Capital Real Estate Impact Fund (‘SCREIF’), which earlier this year received a £50 million investment from Homes England, the UK Government’s housing and regeneration agency. Predominantly focused on addressing the UK’s shortage of social and affordable accommodation, the fund was only the second in the UK to have fulfiled the criteria to use the ‘Sustainability Impact’ label under SDR.
Nick Montgomery, Global Head of Real Estate, Schroders Capital, said:
“2024 has been another strong year for us with important new business wins. Set against the backdrop of a cyclical recovery in many real estate markets, including in the UK, we’re excited to build on this momentum.
“As we continue to strengthen our team of experts globally, we are well placed to capture future growth opportunities. We are therefore delighted to appoint Peter as Head of UK Real Estate Investment, bringing expert knowledge and trusted judgement to this key market.”
